Ever since the world turned its eyes on the fiasco in Wisconsin, there have been mutterings that Governor Scott Walker should be recalled, although Wisconsin state law does not allow for it. (A person must hold elected office for more than one year before they can be subject to recall.) There are, however, no fewer than eight Republican state senators who meet that requirement. Left-wing Fantasy Land would see a recall of just three of those senators turning the legislature over to Democratic hands. Of course, that is just fantasy, and no serious effort has been made toward that end.

Until now. Surprising many, though, this effort is coming from the right wing, is aimed at eight Democratic senators, and is backed by an out-of-state group. The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board announced today that they have received “campaign registration statements for the recall of eight Wisconsin State Senators, filed by American Recall Coalition in Salt Lake City, Utah.”

This is actually a group called Americans Against Immigration Amnesty, LLC (AAIA). This same group is attempting to recall Pima County, AZ Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. While it might seem odd for an immigration-focused group to insinuate itself into the labor debate in Wisconsin, the group  displays the Wisconsin fight prominently on their website. The group is, in fact, closely aligned with the Arizona Tea Party movement.

We’ll update as more information comes in. Stay tuned; this is getting interesting!
