Back in July of 2010 one senator in the Democratic Party evaluated the volatile situation in Egypt with pinpoint accuracy. He used his knowledge to propose a Senate resolution calling on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to move toward more free and fair elections. I urge everyone to read the actual text of the resolution. It is not very long, and every word is spot on. My favorite part is when he mentioned that:

…authorities in Egypt continue to harass, intimidate, arbitrarily detain, and engage in violence against peaceful demonstrators, journalists, human rights activists, and bloggers…

Which is exactly what people all over the world are seeing with their own eyes since this revolution started. This prophetic senator’s name is Russ Feingold.

At some point this man needs to be recognized for his political genius. No public figure in Washington has been more knowledgeable on as wide a range of issues as Feingold, and he needs to be back in office. Is it too soon to draft him for president in 2016?

As far as what happened to Feingold’s proposal, according to The Cable:

The resolution died last December due to a fatal mix of divided loyalties, lobbying influence, and secret Senate holds.

In other words: The resolution died because of business as usual in the Senate. (sigh)
