Arkansas Grocery Store Covers Up Magazine With Elton John’s Baby On Cover To “Protect Young Shoppers”

Harps grocery store in Mountain Home, AR felt the need to “protect young Harps shoppers” from an US Weekly cover showing Elton John, his partner David Furnish, and their new baby. Customer Jennifer Huddleston snapped a photo of the offending cover-up to share the ridiculousness and Tweeted, “This was taken at my local grocery store. I was shocked and horrified. Can you help bring attention to this?”

The Harps store — and company headquarters — were flooded with calls. And within hours the shields had come down.

The manager at the Harps store in Mountain Home was on vacation, and the employee who answered the phone refused to talk to ABC News about the incident.

There was a corporate response, however.

“It is company policy that we use those shields if we get a customer complaint on a certain cover,” Harps Corporate Executive Assistant Marty Yarborough told ABC News. “We have no opinion on what’s covered up. It is strictly because we got a complaint.”
