Lautenberg And McCarthy Crafting Gun Control Bill

Democrats Frank Lautenberg in the Senate and Carolyn McCarthy in the House are drafting gun control legislation in the wake of the Arizona tragedy.

“My staff is working on looking at the different legislation fixes that we might be able to do and we might be able to introduce as early as tomorrow,” Ms. McCarthy told POLITICO.

The Democrat, one of the staunchest gun control advocates, said the incident indicates a need for change in how the nation looks at gun rights and gun control.

New Jersey U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg says he plans to introduce a similar bill in the U.S. Senate.

“The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly,” Mr. Lautenberg said in a statement. “These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market.”

No word yet on when the NRA will object. Or how.
