In what may be the start of the largest catfight in the history of the Republican Party, Karl Rove dug his claws into Sarah Palin’s back while speaking with the The Daily Telegraph, referring to her participation in a reality show on the Discovery Channel.

“With all due candour, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel, I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of ‘that helps me see you in the Oval Office,'” Rove said. “Being the vice-presidential nominee on the ticket is different from saying ‘I want to be the person at the top of the ticket,'” Rove continued. “There are high standards that the American people have for it [the presidency] and they require a certain level of gravitas, and they want to look at the candidate and say ‘that candidate is doing things that gives me confidence that they are up to the most demanding job in the world.'”

There is just too much in that quote to dissect properly, but I will gleefully do my best.

Rove’s message is clear; “there are high standards that the American people have” for the presidency, and Sarah Palin doesn’t meet them. The ultimate irony of course is that Rove’s last boss disproves his point about the American people having “high standards” for their presidents. Bush inspired far more heartburn than “confidence” during his time in office.

Nonetheless, Sarah Palin makes ol’ Dubya look like Abe Lincoln, so Rove is right to warn us about her. The real question is what Sarah’s response will be. Will Sarah take to her Twitter account so she can rally her followers to “refudiate” Rove for his insolence? Will we see video of Rove being mauled by an army of “Mama Grizzlies” on YouTube? One thing is for sure, the 2012 Republican presidential primaries will be far more entertaining than Palin’s silly reality show on the Discovery Channel.

Am I enjoying this? You Betcha!
