Former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani said that GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino “should apologize” for his “highly offensive” comments about gays.

“He should recognize his remarks were highly offensive, and he should apologize for them,” Mr. Giuliani said.

Guiliani isn’t the only Republican to blast the party’s candidate.

In a telephone interview, Edward F. Cox, the chairman of the State Republican Party, said he deplored Mr. Paladino’s comments. “Insofar as Carl Paladino’s statements can be construed as homophobic, those statements are inappropriate and we condemn them,” Mr. Cox said. He declined to elaborate.

Paladino, who has been angered by questions about his family, nevertheless, has no problem passing judgment on what kind of father his opponent, Andrew Cuomo, is, blasting Cuomo for taking his daughters to a gay parade.

“Is that normal? Would you do it? Would you take your children to a gay pride parade?” Mr. Paladino asked the host Matt Lauer on the “Today” show, speaking of Mr. Cuomo.

“I don’t think it’s proper for them to go there and watch a couple of grown men grind against each other. I don’t think that’s proper. I think it’s disgusting.”
