Stan Solomon, a volunteer campaign manager for Republican Marvin Scott (pictured), who is trying to unseat Indianapolis Congressman Andre Carson, resigned after it came to light that he was putting out hate-filled anti-gay Tweets. Scott offered this sort-of apology:  “I have offered an apology, if this offended anyone in the gay community. I want to represent everyone. If I had known what he was doing, I would have fired him long ago.” Scott complains that without funding from the Republican Party, he can’t hire “professionals.”

Bil Browning at The Bilerico Project reported the offenses, and also points out that Scott, himself, has put out smears against Carson, a convert to Islam.  Scott apparently feels that a Muslim Congressman requires a warning against Sharia law in the United States.

“My opponent is a convert to Islam,” says Scott in the statement sent out by a public relations firm. “He made the personal decision to change his faith, and that is his sacred right. I passionately defend his right to become a Muslim and I defend every other American’s right to practice or change their faith as they choose. What they do not have the right to do is to replace American law with extremist Muslim Sharia law. I believe that all Americans should join together in condemning “Muslim Extremism” and all of its ramifications.”

Here’s the kicker, ” I ask my opponent to join me in standing up, standing strong and standing against “Muslim Extremism” and Sharia law.
