RWNJ and Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell received the coveted National Rifle Association endorsement today, just four days before her big primary with Rep. Mike Castle for the Republican Party Senate nomination in Delaware. “Christine O’Donnell will be a strong voice in fighting ongoing efforts by anti-gun politicians to dismantle the Second Amendment,” chairman of the NRA’s Political Victory Fund Chris Cox said in a statement. “We ask all Delaware gun-owners and hunters to vote for Christine O’Donnell in the U.S. Senate Republican primary on September 14th.” The endorsement should come as no surprise to Castle, who has an “F” from the gun lobby for his voting record; but it can still be the final push O’Donnell needs to pull this race out.

The NRA endorsement follows that that of Sarah Palin, who is looking to build on her endorsement success after supporting Joe Miller, who pulled off a stunning upset in Alaska. If O’Donnell does ride her recent surge of support to victory on Tuesday, it would certainly be a delicious turn of events for the Democrats in Delaware. According to the latest Rasmussen poll numbers, Castle holds an 11-point lead over the Democrat in the race, Chris Coons. But when matched up with O’Donnell, the advantage swings the other way, with Coons holding an 11-point lead. Once again, the Republican primary voters appear ready to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Is there anything more fun than Republican primaries?
