GOP Congressman To Gun Parts Maker: With Obama As President “You Need To Spend More Time Making A Gun Lock”

Republican Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg, visiting a tool making factory, told the owners, “If Obama is president, maybe you need to spend more time developing a gun lock, a trigger lock.” (h/t Taegan Goddard).  Plant owner Randy Jones asked the congressman about gun rights, which led to the remark.  His wife Bonnie says she took the comment as a joke and wasn’t offended. Of course, these are not exactly Obama fans.

The Joneses have seen some business come their way in that area as well and are currently designing a bullet-loading machine for one of Stevensville’s ammunition makers.

Despite some recent success – the shop also churns out 100,000 nuts each week for European airplane maker Airbus – the Joneses had major concerns about the state of the nation. Randy Jones said he was profoundly worried about the new health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a $940 billion overhaul that will extend health insurance to an additional 32 million Americans who are currently uninsured.

Rehberg is no stranger to idiocy. As Lt. Gov. of Montana in 1994, regarding the AIDS crisis, he said, “The problem with AIDS is: you got it, you die. So why are we spending money on the issue?” And what a sense of humor this guy has! During a Middle Eastern congressional delegation trip in 2008, Rehberg played a “practical joke” on Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson.

Rehberg left an “Idaho Travel Package” on Simpson’s airplane seat.

Contents included a stuffed sheep with gloves attached to it (draw your own conclusions), a Village People CD, books on cross-dressing and sign language and a T-shirt that reads, “My senator may not be gay, but my governor is Butch.”

Rehberg is proud of the gift bag. “I spent a bit of time putting the things together,” he boasted.
