“Democrat” Ben Nelson Against Unemployment Benefits, For Tax Cuts For The Rich

Funny how Nebraska’s Ben Nelson, a nominal Democrat, believes we can’t afford to help the unemployed, but we can afford tax cuts for the wealthy.  Nelson is concerned with deficits when they’re caused by spending, but not when they’re caused by tax cuts.

I support extending unemployment benefits for Nebraskans and Americans who remain out of work. However, I opposed the Senate’s unemployment bill today because it should have, and it could have, been paid for.

“I oppose another $33 billion in deficit spending and increasing the debt.

Nelson’s view on tax cuts and their affects on the deficit is exactly the opposite.

Sen. Ben Nelson (D., Neb.) said through a spokesman that he also supported extending all the expiring tax cuts for now, adding that he wanted to offset the impact on federal deficits as much as possible.

So, to sum up:

  • Helping the unemployed leads to deficits:  no good.
  • Helping the rich leads to deficits: good.
