Is It Just Me, Or Is There Something Unseemly About Begging LeBron James To Live Here
I love New York. I’m a native. It’s like no other place in the world. But whether LeBron James is my neighbor does not affect my life, and I could care less where he goes to enjoy his wonderful life. Yet, big name New Yorkers (not to mention those in other cities) are practically begging him to settle where they think it will benefit them.
Joining the long list of locals wooing basketball’s biggest free agent LeBron James, the New York real estate firm [Halstead] is not only offering to find him a swanky pad, but also give the likely six-figure commission to a charity of his choice.
The campaign is called “Every King Needs a Castle”. It has it’s own site, EveryKingNeedsaCastle.com, which features a video starring Halstead president Diane Ramirez and former New York Knick’s player John Starks. The two make their case from a sunny Brooklyn basketball court.
The really sad part is the desperation-induced naivete, the notion that the mega-star cares which city really, really loves him, the idea that this ballyhoo could possibly matter. He cares about the money and the team he’ll play on. And that’s it.
