South Carolina State Senator: We Have A Raghead In The White House, Don’t Need One As Governor (UPDATED)

Republican South Carolina State Senator Jake Knotts has a problem with Nikki Haley, the frontrunner to become the state’s GOP gubernatorial nominee.  Haley was raised with the Sikh faith, but changed her website to make sure people know she is a Christian.

The Brody File has uncovered documents and details that show an emphasis on her Sikh faith and traditions in 2004 when she was running for the State Legislature (even though she became a Christian 7 years earlier). Now that she’s running for Governor of the state, mentions of her Sikh faith are virtually non-existent.

Haley’s religious opportunism aside, Knotts supports another candidate in the four-way GOP race, and attacked Haley and Obama in one fell swoop (h/t Think Progress)

We already got one raghead in the White House, we don’t need a raghead in the governor’s mansion.

South Carolina’s Republican Party has condemned Knotts’s statement.

UPDATE: Knotts has issued a semi-apology, saying, “I still believe Ms. Haley is pretending to be someone she is not, much as Obama did, but I apologize to both for an unintended slur.”
