A predawn raid by Israel on a Gaza aid convoy, leaving at least 10 killed and 30 wounded, has outraged the world.

Robert Serry, UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, and Filippo Grandi, commissioner-general of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), condemned in a joint statement the Israeli attack on Gaza Flotilla.

“We are shocked by reports of killings and injuries of people on board the convoy carrying supplies to Gaza, apparently in international waters. We condemn the violence and call for it to stop. The situation is still ongoing and we are awaiting confirmation of what has happened,” said the joint statement.

The attack has put a severe strain on Israeli-Turkish relations.

According to Free Gaza Movement, a human rights organization, the clashes took place between an international aid flotilla heading towards Gaza and the Israeli navy.

Reports say that Israeli commandos boarded the deck of a Turkish ship from a helicopter and opened fire on unarmed civilians at 4:30 am.

This has resulted in international condemnation of the Israeli attack on the flotilla of ships carrying aid for Palestinians in Gaza.

It has been reported that the flotilla of six ships – that were sailing from a port in Cyprus to Gaza – were carrying around 10,000 tons of aid to Gaza.
