Maine Republicans Endorse Teabaggerism

Stuck with two Senators – Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe – that fall far short of the radical philosophies of many in the assorted Tea Parties, Maine Republicans stood tall and endorsed TeaBaggerism as its platform at the Maine Republican convention, adopting a tea party document as its platform.  By doing so, Maine has now veered right of the GOP and have grabbed on to what former Maine GOP attorney Dan Billings calls “wack job pablum” and “nutcase stuff.”

From Maine Politics:

The document calls for the elimination of the Department of Education and the Federal Reserve, demands an investigation of “collusion between government and industry in the global warming myth,” suggests the adoption of “Austrian Economics,” declares that “‘Freedom of Religion’ does not mean ‘freedom from religion'” (which I guess makes atheism illegal), insists that “healthcare is not a right,” calls for the abrogation of the “UN Treaty on Rights of the Child” and the “Law Of The Sea Treaty” and declares that we must resist “efforts to create a one world government.”

The platform is a hodge-podge of nationalism, libertarianism, conservatism and random-talking-pointsisms, and also includes a call for war (“to win”) against radical Islam. It could also be the first-ever GOP platform that mentions Ron Paul by name. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rosa Scarcelli said the platform “lowers an iron curtain of intolerance,”  is “extreme and out of touch” and promotes an “intolerant national right-wing agenda.”

See the video below to see how enthusiastically it was supported at the convention:
