As Seen in the Bookstore…

Although the title suggests it should be shelved in the Science Fiction section, I found S.E. Cupp’s Losing Our Religion – The Liberal Media’s Attack On Christianity, tucked in with actual religious books.

Which Christianity is she talking about? The one based on Jesus’s teachings about unconditional love and forgiveness? Or the fictional one? The “religion” based on the right’s self-serving agenda; i.e. gain power and money through fear, greed, war and racism. You don’t need to be Marshall McLuhan to see that in fact, it’s the latter.

Case in point: Michele Bachmann. The congresswoman endorses the book by saying, “Few people will do what S.E. does in Losing Our Religion – hold the liberal left and the liberal media accountable for the assault on our heritage and culture. For anyone interested in defending our nation’s democracy and rich religious history, Losing Our Religion is a must read.”

No thanks, but I appreciate your ridiculous offer Michele. Because this isn’t about our heritage and culture. It’s about what you can gain from bastardizing it. But as Michael Stipe sang in the R.E.M song Losing My Religion – “Oh, life. It’s bigger than you.”
