Top Anti-Gay Crusader Hires Gay Prostitute For European Trip

Baptist minister and psychology professor George Alan Rekers met a 20-year-old on a gay escort site, but says he didn’t know the man was a professional escort and that he just hired him to help with luggage. Rekers was co-founder, with James Dobson, of the Family Research Council, and advocates gay-to-straight conversions.

“I had surgery,” Rekers told the Miami New Times, “and I can’t lift luggage. That’s why I hired him.”

He allegedly maintained he learned he was traveling with a prostitute halfway through their trip, but did not deny he’d met the man on Rentboy.com, a Web site for connecting gay escorts with clients, the Miami New Times reports.

The escort’s Rentboy.com profile describes him as “sensual” and “up for anything,” and offers a graphic description of his genitals, according to the paper.

When approached, the escort — called “Lucien” by the paper — was reportedly shocked when told Rekers denied knowing he was a sex worker.

“He should’ve been able to tell you that,” he told the newspaper. “But that’s up to him.”

On his website, “Professor George” denies that he was doing anything other than seeking assistance with travel.

A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute (Lucien, pictured) to accompany him on a recent trip. Contrary to Internet stories based on this slanderous article, following medical advice Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery. His family, local friends, and even another university professor colleague have offered to accompany him on trips to lift luggage. Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant.
