Robert Gibbs: “Whoever Did That Should Be Categorized As A Terrorist”

According to the dictionary, “terrorism” is systematic terror as a means of coercion. While states have historically struggled to come up with a mutually acceptable definition of “terrorism,” it’s generally committed to promote an ideology. The US code differentiates between international and domestic terrorism, but defines both types as attempts to “influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion.”

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says that whoever is responsible for the Times Square car bomb “should be categorized as a terrorist.”  However, we know that the words “terrorist” and “terrorism” are often used with a particular agenda.  There are those who can’t wait to bray that an act of terror happened on President Obama’s watch.  As if he had something to do with it or could have prevented it.
