Tea Party Sign: “We Vote With Bullets.”

Although Tea Party leaders have continually denounced violent rhetoric they’ve striven to create, it hasn’t done much to stop it.  Out on the steps of the old Florida Capitol, signs at a Tax Day Tea Party event were filled with the usual: Poor spelling, violent content and phrases that were just plain weird.  Among the more colorful:

“We vote with bullets,” “Fire Congress,” “9/11 was an Inside Job” and “Return to the Constitution.”

The Tea Party movement proclaims it isn’t racist, but there were less than half a dozen black people in the crowd, a head count that supports the recent CNN/Opinion Research Poll finding that only two percent of the Tea Party activists were African-American.

Also present were supporters of Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate, Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, and Senate President Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach, both of whom delivered impassioned speeches praising local budgets and blasting the national fiscal situation. No reports on whether there were impassioned renunciations of inappropriate signage.
