95% Of Americans Got Tax Cuts; 12% Know It; Tea Partiers Least Informed

A CBS poll reveals that when asked whether the Obama administration, raised, lowered, or kept taxes the same for most Americans, only 12% get the answer correct: taxes were decreased.

• 24 percent of respondents said they INCREASED taxes.

• 53 percent said they kept taxes the same

• And 12 percent said taxes were decreased.

Of people who support the grassroots, “Tea Party” movement, only 2 percent think taxes have been decreased, 46 percent say taxes are the same, and a whopping 44 percent say they believe taxes have gone up.

Tax cuts were expansive, in that they covered many Americans, but they were small.  And some taxes were raised on the state level to make up for shortfalls.  Another reason for the lack of accurate perception on tax cuts is the loud drumbeat from the right about how Obama raises taxes, which is factually inaccurate.
