South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson, who yelled out “You lie” at President Obama the last time the president addressed a joint session of Congress, says he’ll be on his best behavior tonight.

“I am a gentleman. My natural inclination is to be on my best behavior,” he said. “I have the highest respect for the president, and I certainly look forward to the speech.””I am a gentleman. My natural inclination is to be on my best behavior,” he said. “I have the highest respect for the president, and I certainly look forward to the speech.”

Wilson’s inability to control himself came after Obama said illegal immigrants would not be eligible for health care benefits. Even though Wilson then raised lots of money, he became the only House member ever to have been admonished there for speaking out during a presidential speech.  A House resolution passed soon thereafter said his conduct brought “discredit to the House.” Although Wilson admits his emotions got the better of him, he vows it won’t happen again.

“That was truly a one-time … town hall moment,” he said, referring to the raucous town halls over the summer where conservatives protested Obama’s plans. “Since that time, it’s been my view to have a civil discussion on the issues.”
