Scott Brown Vs. Martha Coakley: It’s Ugly

Laffy has some good stuff on Scott Brown at The Political Carnival. For one thing, Brown implies that Barack Obama was born out of wedlock:

For their part, Democrats put out a mailer claiming that Brown wants hospitals to turn away rape victims.

The mailer — paid for by the Massachusetts Democratic Party — says the claim is based on “a law to let emergency hospitals turn away rape victims in need of emergency contraception.” That appears to be a reference to a Brown-sponsored 2005 amendment that would have exempted hospital personnel, on religious grounds, to inform victims of the availability of the morning after pill.

Erick Erickson at Red State is asking people to show up and disrupt Coakley phone banks, the kind of thing Republicans were prosecuted for in 2002.

With questions about whether Ted Kennedy’s successor will honor his legacy on health care, note that Brown’s staff is being paid as independent contractors, meaning they have to pay their own taxes and, likely, health care.

The contractors designation applies from the top tier to lower level staffers who appear to be doing grunt advance work for Brown events and handling volunteers and press.

The decision to treat staffers as independent contractors could save the campaign money on taxes and benefits, experts TPMDC spoke with said, although the precise rationale for the move remains unclear.

Brown’s lawyer, Dan Winslow, refused to answer questions about this at a GOP press conference.

Oh, and Scott Brown is pro-choice. Where are the GOP attack dogs on that one?
