What We Can Learn From The New York Terror Plot

James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams (pictured), and Laguesrre Payen are the four terror suspects who wanted to commit holy war against America by way of bombing two synagogues in the Riverdale section of New York.  One of them remarked, “If Jews were killed in this attack…that would be alright.”  The men are all from Newburgh, New York.  That means we don’t have to go invade other countries that aren’t a real threat, when domestic terrorism is more real.  Three or the men are American citizens and one is Haitian. That means they weren’t in training camps overseas; they were mostly bred right here in the United States.  Payen attended a New York mosque and his statements on Islam were often wrong and had to be corrected.  That means these weren’t adherents of any strain of real Islam, but rather poseurs using Islam as cover for whatever crazy beliefs they took on.

And let’s not forget the wonderful law enforcement capabilities exhibited here. It was a year-long undercover operation with successful infiltration and flawless execution by the feds.  And when the plot was revealed, uniformed officers flooded the neighborhood where the operation was to take place to give the residents a sense of calm.

It’s important to note that real Muslims don’t support terror attacks.  Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on Islamic-American Relations praised law enforcement for protecting our country and Jewish institutions, and also said, “We repeat the American Muslim community’s repudiation of bias-motivated crimes and of anyone who would falsely claim religious justification for violent actions.”

So let’s not use this incident to stereotype. Liberals get accused of not giving enough kudos to law enforcement.  Some conservatives have focused primarily on invading other countries when our resources are most needed here. Others have been critical of Muslims for not doing enough to speak out against actions done in the name of Islam. We should see this for what it is; and breathe a sigh of relief.  Until the next time.
