NRA’s Gun Rally Excuse To Bash Democrats

This is the NRA’s convention weekend but you’d think it was the Republican National Convention the way they’re behaving.  John McCain was an early weekend main event along with Mitt Romney, and the name “Nancy Pelosi” got boos each time it was mentioned.  Executive Director Wayne LaPierre offered a healthy dose of paranoia which, of course, is good to gin up the crowd and to raise money.

“The world government dreamers out there” and “the Washington boss bunch” are launching “unsubstantiated attacks on our cores values,” LaPierre said.

NRA lobbyist Chris Cox did give President Obama credit for one thing: boosting gun and ammunition sales, as many stock up in fear that the president and congressional Democrats will approve a ban.

“Our rights are under attack like never before, and at all levels of government,” Cox said.

RNC Chair Michael Steele warned about the Obama administration eroding gun rights, and threw in the threat of socialism for good measure, warning about an attempt to “redistribute wealth.”

Ted Nugent speaks Sunday.  Good to know the NRA is reaching out to all sides.  Here’s a preview of what we might expect from the man who suggested at an August 2007 concert that Barbara Boxer and Barack Obama suck on his machine gun, called him “a piece of shit,” urged Hillary to “ride one of these into the sunset you worthless bitch,” and offered the same opportunity to Dianne Feinstein while calling her “a worthless whore.”
