Limbaugh Wants Smaller Republican Party

There are two schools of thought about the defection of Arlen Specter.  There are those like David Frum, who says this is the “thing we needed the wake-up call to warn us against.”  Then there are the Rush Limbaughs of the world who tell Specter not to let the door hit him on the way out, or as Limbuagh put it, “Take McCain and his daughter with you.” If the GOP wants to get rid of anyone who doesn’t tow the right-wing line they will have a much smaller party, indeed.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele questions Specter’s principles.

“Senator Specter didn’t leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record.”

Isn’t that why Michael Bloomberg left the Democratic Party, because he could only get the Republican nomination for mayor of New York? And isn’t that why Bloomberg left the Republican Party to become an independent, because he was considering a run for higher office?  I’ve yet to hear a Republican criticize Mayor Bloomberg.  In fact, Republicans are happy to take him back into the fold now that it’s likely he’ll have a third term.
