Alabama Congressman: Pelosi Is “Crazy” And “Mean As A Snake”
Congressman Mike Rogers, speaking at Auburn University Montgomery, had some less-than-bipartisan words for those on the other side of the aisle.
Despite President Barack Obama’s commitment to bipartisanship, Rogers says Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi (whom he described as “crazy,” “mean as a snake” and “Tom DeLay in a skirt”) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid didn’t get that memo.
“They don’t talk to us,” he said. “They’ve got the vote, and they can do what they want.”
Rogers said to be fair Democrats are paying Republicans back for how they were treated when the Republicans controlled Congress.
“Republican leaders didn’t talk to the Democrats,” he said. “The attitude was ‘We have the votes on our side, let the Democrats whine.'”
Now, the chairman of the Alabama Democrats wants to bring the warring parties together.
Democratic Chairman Joe Turnham said he would personally try to set up a meeting between Pelosi, a California Democrat, and Rogers to discuss bi-partisan cooperation if Rogers apologizes to her.Democratic Chairman Joe Turnham said he would personally try to set up a meeting between Pelosi, a California Democrat, and Rogers to discuss bi-partisan cooperation if Rogers apologizes to her.
“She does her job with passion and tenacity. While Congressman Rogers does not agree with her politics, she is not the evil person Congressman Rogers portrays her to be,” Turnham said in a release. “Congressman Rogers cannot serve the people of Alabama effectively if he uses profane language to disparage the speaker in this manner all while expressing the desire for more bi-partisanship in Washington. If Congressman Rogers will publicly apologize to Speaker Pelosi for his unflattering remarks made about her at AUM this week, I will personally request that the speaker meet with Congressman Rogers and discuss how he and the speaker’s office can work more productively together.
“You can’t call people names and then bemoan the fact they won’t work with you.”
