Binghamton Gunman Felt “Degraded And Disrespected”

Vietnamese immigrant Jiverly Voong was angry about poor language skills and lack of job prospects.  Police Chief Joseph Zikusky of Binghamton says he felt “degraded and disrespected” because of his poor English.  One wonders how he was treated as an immigrant with a large learning curve to overcome in the US.  He was clearly mentally unbalanced and there is absolutely no excuse for what he did.  But we do know there is a huge anti-immigrant backlash in this country, especially at at time of increasing unemployment and economic despair.

A string of attacks in the U.S. in the last month left 44 people dead in all.

A gunman killed 10 people and himself in Samson, Ala.; shootings that began with a traffic stop in Oakland, Calif., left four police officers and the gunman dead; an apparent murder-suicide in Santa Clara, Calif., left six dead; and a gunman went on a rampage at a nursing home Sunday, killing seven elderly residents and a nurse who cared for them.

Voong is described as “an angry loner who loved guns, hated America and talked about assassinating the president.”

Kevin Greene, who once worked with 41-year-old mass murderer Jiverly Voong, said a question about a New York Yankees T-shirt he was wearing brought out his dark side.

Greene said, “I asked him if he liked the Yanks,” and “he said, ‘No, I don’t like that team. I don’t like America. America sucks.'”

Greene said Voong’s conversations often focused on weapons. “He went to target practice on Saturday. He said he had two guns, one in his glove compartment. He was always talking about his guns.”
