Senate Leader Mitch McConnell: Bush Was “A Millstone Around Our Necks”

It’s now quite fashionable for former Bush supporters to tell us what a bad president he was and how bad he was for Republicans.


“President Bush had become extremely unpopular, and politically he was sort of a millstone around our necks in both ’06 and ’08,” McConnell told reporters Friday. “We now have the opportunity to be on offense, offer our own ideas and we will win some.”

 


Matt Yglesias reminds us that it was McConnell wanted Republicans to launch filibusters to preserve the Bush agenda when the GOP lost its majority status.
