RIP Paul Harvey

No one may have had more influence and more success in gathering a radio audience than Paul Harvey (above, with his beloved Lynne, aka “Angel”).  Long before there was a Limbaugh, Harvey made his mark as an iconic pronouncer of each day’s events.  “The rest of the story” gave us the background we never would otherwise have learned on important issues.  The biographical verbal pictures he drew, where the name of the subject was the punchline to the story, gave us rare insights into important figures.  The pause at the end of each newscast had engineers all over America on edge, waiting for the final, “Good day,” before they would hit the next broadcast element.

All of us in radio owe Paul Harvey a debt of gratitude for reminding us how significant radio can be.  And for showing us how to best use the medium in the first place.
