Senator Jim Bunning Says Ruth Bader Ginsberg Will Be Dead Soon

Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning (seen at right, describing how much thought he gives before he opens his mouth), speaking at the Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner, says he supports conservative judges, “and that’s going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer.”

“Bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from.”   He went on to muse, “Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer.”

Ginsberg, who goes back to work Monday having missed not one day on the bench, has a small tumor removed that didn’t spread.  She was diagnosed with Stage 1 pancreatic cancer, meaning it was found when it was most curable.

Bunning is not popular, even among his fellow Kentucky Republicans, and it’s reported that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is setting the stage for a primary fight against him for his run in 2010.  In his 2004 race against Democratic State Senator Daniel Mongiardo Bunning said his opponent looked like one of Saddam Hussein’s sons.  During this campaign, Kentucky Senate President David Willaims referred to Mongiardo as “limp-wristed” and a “switch hitter”, State Senator Elizabeth Tori said, “I’m not even sure the word ‘man’ applies to him’.”
