In North Dakota A Fertilized Egg May Soon Be A Person

The North Dakota House of Representatives voted 51-41 to give fertilized eggs the same rights as people.  Representative Dan Ruby (R-What a Shock) sponsored the bill, and says, “This is the exact language that’s required by Roe vs. Wade. It stipulated that before a challenge can be made, we have to identify when life begins, and that’s what this does.”

This would mean, subject to it passing in the Senate and being signed by the governor, that abortion would be akin to murder. Governor Mike Rounds signed an abortion ban in 2006, so he would likely look favorably upon this legislation.  One has to wonder if they’d start arresting doctors and their patients.   Wouldn’t a woman who seeks an abortion and her doctor be parties to a crime in this scenario?  Let’s hope fertilized eggs appreciate the exhalted status they may soon be legally offered.
