Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois was on radio with me Monday night. Among the highlights:

• I ask Blagojevich, “Are you nuts?”
• Blagojevich says he could become a pizza delivery man after he’s forced out of office.
• The Illinois governor jokes about Chicago politics, saying the goal of any governor is to be an alderman.
• Blagojevich says that not appointing Obama’s replacement would have been impeachable.
• Blagojevich says he’s on the “same side” as prosecutors.
• He admits that his media blitz is in vain.
• Blagojevich says the impeachment sets “dangerous precedents”.
• The governor acknowledges that he’s “advocated” asking a judge to halt the impeachment, but his lawyers advised against it.

The governor also compared his battle to FDR’s fight against the Nazis.

After comparing his arrest last week to the Pearl Harbor attacks, Blagojevich told Colmes that his efforts as governor to go around the legislature were not unlike former President Franklin Roosevelt’s during World War II.

“Now that’s using the powers of the executive branch to help people who need help, not unlike what Franklin Roosevelt did when he was president, and he helped Great Britain because Congress was not willing to allow the United States to shore up Britain in its fight against the Nazis,” he said.
