Gaza conducted several days of air strikes into Israel following expiration of a shaky six-month truce.  The attack on Gaza is being described as the biggest in decades.  A statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Israeli aircraft attacked “a series of Hamas targets and infrastructure facilities.”

“The Air Force activity came as a result of the continuation of terror activity by Hamas terror organization from the Gaza Strip, and the duration of rocket launching and targeting Israeli civilians,” the IDF statement said.

Israel says it will continue the attacks “as long as it takes” and Hamas legislator Hanan Ashrawi is accusing Israel of ignoring the terms of the cease-fire, calling it “a very cruel escalation, a relentless bombardment of a captive civilian population that has already been under seige for months…”

The White House is calling on Hamas to stop rocket attacks and on Israel “to avoid civilian casualties as it targets Hamas in Gaza.”
