Does Political Affiliation Predict Entertainment Options?

Nielsen, the media ratings company, put out a study linking television viewing habits to political party affiliation.

Shows like “Housewives,” “Army Wives,” “What Not to Wear” and “Saving Grace” turn up high on the lists of both Democrats and Republicans.

But that’s where the bi-partisanship ends.

GOPers, it turns out, are passionate for “South Park” and “The Bill Engvall Show,” the very red-state comedy on TBS starring “The Blue Collar Comedy Tour” guy.

Democrats laugh liberally at the fake right-wing “The Colbert Report” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the Danny DeVito-produced comedy on FX.

As for drama, well, Republican viewers are into Glenn Close’s FX series “Damages” – about a hard-driving lawyer who cuts corners to get the results she wants out of the legal system.

Democrats apparently like the he-man, real-life drama of reality shows like “Deadliest Catch” and “Ax Men.” (Editor’s note: Cindy McCain calls “Deadliest Catch” her favorite TV show. You decide what that may mean.)

There is even a divide on dating shows. Democrats like Tiffany Pollard’s “I Love New York” while Republicans prefer “Rock of Love With Bret Michaels”.  Must be those family values Republicans voting on that one.
