Palin To McCain: “Take The Gloves Off”

That’s what the Alaska governor told Bill Kristol her advice is for McCain’s second debate with Barack Obama.  And Kristol agrees, writing, “Hockey mom knows best.”  “Take the gloves off” apparently means bring up Bill Ayres and claim that Obama should be disqualfied from seeking the presidency because of his comment that civilians are being killed in Afghanistan.

But McCain has already heeded this suggestion, as his new ad calls Obama  “dishonorable” and “too risky for America.”

The Obama campaign is thankfully responding to these slurs immediately and forcefully.  They’ve put out a statement by John B. Nathman, a four star Navy admiral who served as Vice Chief of Naval Operations and Commander, Fleet Forces:

“As a recently retired Admiral, I know who has the strongest record of supporting the men and women currently serving in our military. Senator Obama has consistently voted to fund our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and, just as importantly, a proven record of support when they return home. That’s why independent veterans organizations give Senator Obama higher marks than Senator McCain. Despite consistent distortions of his record, thousands of veterans like myself support Senator Obama because he has the judgment, character and integrity to be a great president. We will need a great president to lead us in these very challenging times.”

As for Sarah Palin’s continual knocks on the “mainstream media”, the New York Times has written of the Obama-Ayers connection 18 times.  Now, with Palin questioning the McCain decision to abandon Michigan and offering him debate advice, one has to wonder just who is in charge in McCainLand.
