Conservatives, Upset That College Professors Have Agendas, Look For Profs With Agendas

Conservatives, frustrated after 20 years and millions of dollars spent attacking liberal universities and professors, are trying something new.

They are finding like-minded tenured professors and helping them establish academic beachheads for their ideas.

These initiatives, like the Program in Western Civilization and American Institutions at the University of Texas, Austin, or a project at the University of Colorado here in Colorado Springs, to publish a book of classic texts, are mostly financed by conservative organizations and donors, run by conservative professors. But they have a decidedly nonpartisan and nonideological face.

So, they are hiding their true agenda, after spending years attacking liberal professors and universities for having an agenda.  James Piereson of the conservative Manhattan Institute says the initiatives are only political in that they “work against the thrust of programs and courses in gender, race and class studies, and postmodernism in general.”

In other words, they’re political, attempting to counter what they see as liberal bias on university campuses.  It’s amazing that with so many radical, liberal, left-wing institutions and professors, that they’ve been able to turn out so many right-wing, conservative American citizens.
