Senator Jim Bunning On The Bailout: “I Thought I Woke Up In France”

Kentucky Senator (and former baseball Hall of Famer) Jim Bunning is outraged by the bailouts going on. Bunning, who referred to his last opponent for the senate as looking like one of Saddam Hussein’s sons, has had the harshest of reactions to the events of the last couple of days.

“The free market for all intents and purposes is dead in America,” said Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Kentucky, the most vocal bailout critic in the Senate. “The action proposed today by the Treasury Department will take away the free market and institute socialism in America.”

Below, a few more bon mots:

“The administration is absolutey wrong in bailing out Bear Stearns and Fannie and Freddie…We have socialism in the Republican Party in this administration.”

“When I picked up my newspaper yesterday I thought I woke up in France, but no it turned out it was socialism here in the United States of America.”
