McCain Lawyer Working To Block Palin Inquiry

Earlier we asked, “What is Sarah Palin hiding?”  That question is now amplified by word that Edward O’Callaghan, a former Justice Department prosecutor who now works for the McCain campaign, is actively working to shut down the investigation.  Here is the crux of the matter:

The investigation revolves around allegations that Palin fired Monegan, the state’s top cop, because he rebuffed intense pressure from the governor and her aides to dismiss Mike Wooten, a state trooper involved in a messy custody battle with Palin’s sister. Critics, including Monegan himself, have accused Palin of being obsessed over the Wooten matter–sending him repeated e-mails about it–in an attempt to use her public office to settle a private score.

O’Callaghan is now in Alaska, tasked with “thwarting inquiries into the Alaska governor on all fronts.”  This is in spite of what Palin said on July 28, when she vowed to “fully cooperate” with this investigation.   They tried a neat little trick when Palin filed a complaint against herself in an attempt to put the investigation in the hands of the state Personnel Board and take it out of the hands of the Legislative Council, which they suddenly decided was “tainted”.   Now Palin’s lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, has filed a motion with the Personnel board saying “there’s no probable cause” to pursue an ethics inquiry in the first place.

Yet, Sarah Palin is being presented to the American people as a “reformer” who went after the bad guys and was a model of “clean government“.  Are we going to buy it?
