Obama Assassination Plot

Four people are being held on drug or weapons charges after a plot to assassinate Obama was foiled. The CBS Denver affiliate learned from one of the suspects that he had come to Denver specifically to assassinate Obama.

CBS4 Investigator Brian Maass reported one of the suspects told authorities they were “going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a … rifle … sighted at 750 yards.”

The plan was to kill Obama during his acceptance speech.  At least one of the suspects, 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell (above), had two high-powered scoped rifles in his car, camouflage clothing, wigs, a bullet-proof vest, a spotting scope, and licenses with false identities.   One of Gartrell’s associates, Shawn Robert Adolph, jumped out a of a sixth-floor hotel room when authorities found him.  Adolph was wearing a swastika and is believed to be associated with white supremacists. 

I recall how the Obama haters were all atwitter when Obama first got Secret Service protection, saying it made him look more presidential.  No, you get Secret Service Protection when the FBI says so.
