The Truth About Obama’s Cancelled Military Trip

TPM puts to rest the lies in the McCain ad and other sources abut why Obama didn’t visit a US military base in Germany.  Obviously what the McCain camp wants us to believe is that Obama doesn’t care for the troops and only wants to be seen with them if there is a photo-op.

McCann’s ad claims Obama didn’t make the trip because the Pentagon said no cameras were allowed.  But the Pentagan’s reason was not that at all.  Instead, what they said was that Obama couldn’t bring his campaign staff.

In fact, there was never a plan to take the press with Obama to visit the troops in Germany, and he visited them in Iraq with no cameras, no press.  It’s obvious that Obama didn’t want to play politics with the troops, and didn’t want even the percpetion that he would do such a thing.  So who is actually playing politics here?
