Republicans Ingracious In Defeat

Dan Cazayoux will be the newest Democratic member of Congress. He just won a runoff election to succeed Republican Richard Baker in Louisiana’s sixth district.  This is the second recent significant victory for Democrats, who picked up another Republican seat in March, that of former House speaker Denny Hastert in Illinois, in a contest unexpectedly won by Bill Foster.  But, amazingly,  the National Republican Campaign Committee is spinning this to look as though it’s a loss for Barack Obama, saying in a news release that because Cazaoux had a larger lead earlier in the race, before Republicans “nationalized” the race, it shows the “real life consequences of an Obama presidency”:

“This election speaks to the potential toxicity of an Obama candidacy and the possible drag he could have down-ballot this fall.”

Not quite gracious in defeat, those Republicans. And here is an ad the NRCC ran in the campaign trying to claim that a local election was all about Obama and Nancy Pelosi, and carefully inserting the word “radical”.
