Stone And The Family Spitz

It was Republican dirt merchant Roger Stone who tipped off the FBI to the New York Luv Gov’s use of prostitutes, reports the New York Post. And what evidence is there to corroborate Stone’s story?

Stone’s lawyer wrote to the FBI after investigators asked to speak with Stone, although they didn’t specify for what purpose. He refused to talk to them, but sent the letter about Spitzer.

“It is also my client’s understanding from the same source that Governor Spitzer did not remove his mid-calf-length black socks during the sex act. Perhaps you can use this detail to corroborate Mr. Stone’s information,” according to the letter, which was first reported by the Miami Herald.

The Herald reports that Stone learned this information from “a social contact in an adult-themed club.” This is not surprising, given that Stone, before he had to resign as an aide to Bob Dole, was found to have placed ads in swingers magazines looking for threesomes with his wife. Below is the September 24, 1996 cover of the Star.

And this is the same Roger Stone who has been accused of making an invective-laced phone call to Eliot Spitzer’s elderly father, threatening that he would have to testify about “shady campaign loans” to his son’s campaign. Although Stone has denied making this phone call, he admitted that the call came from his telephone number.

“This is a message for Bernard Spitzer. You will be subpoenaed to testify in front of the Senate committee on investigation on your shady campaign loans. You will be compelled by the Senate sergeant at arms, if you resist, you will be arrested and brought to Albany – and there’s not a goddamn thing your phony, psycho piece of s— son can do about it. Bernie, your phony loans are about to catch up with you. You will be forced to tell the truth. The fact that your son is a pathological liar will be known to all.”

Here is that phone call.

After this phone call was revealed, Stone had to resign from yet another job, this time advising New York Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno as to how to deal with Spitzer, his political enemy.
