New York Governor’s Future In Doubt

The New York Times reports he was caught on a federal wiretap arranging a meeting with a prostitute at a Washington hotel.

Spitzer, with his wife by his side, said:

“I am disappointed that I failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family. I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much,” Spitzer said.

(How do these shamed men get their wives to stand by their sides at moments like this?)

Lt. Governor David Paterson would step in to become New York’s first African American governor should Spitzer resign.

David Paterson is a former minority leader of the New York State Senate, and is legally blind. His father, Basil Paterson, is a former New York Secretary of State.
