Ladies and gentlemen, some may deny the surge is working, but among the terrorists there is no doubt. Al Qaida is on the run in Iraq, and this enemy will be defeated.

That’s nice, but you never defined what victory is, and the goalposts keep changing.

And tonight in this hallowed chamber, with the American people as our witness, we make you a solemn pledge: In the fight ahead, you will have all you need to protect our Nation.

That sounds really good, but where was the protection for the Humvees and the proper military vests and the equipment that was needed all along, not to mention enough troops for the mission in the first place? Yet, even the Democrats have to stand, or they look like unpatriotic ingrates.
