Bush Using Similar Language On Iran As He Did On Iraq

And it’s eery.

“Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere,” Bush said, calling on the Iranian government to make itself more accountable to its citizens. “So the United States is strengthening our long-standing security commitments with our friends in the Gulf, and rallying friends around the world to confront this danger before it is too late.”

Sound familiar? In spite of the fact that sixteen of our own intelligence agencies say otherwise, Bush won’t accept the findings because they just don’t reflect his own views (see the post below this one). And the rhetoric is eerily familiar to what was said before the invasion of Iraq.

An ”aggressive dictator,” Mr. Bush said, ”now rules in Iraq. By his search for terrible weapons, by his ties to terrorist groups, the dictator of Iraq threatens the security of every free nation, including the free nations of Europe.’‘

Let’s look at today’s statements side by side with what was said before we invaded Iraq:

November 24, 2002:

“… the dictator of Iraq threatens the security of every free nation…”

January 13, 2008:

“Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere.”

February 14, 2003

Bush challenges U.N. leaders to confront Iraq or ‘fade into history’

January 13, 2008:

“So the United States is strengthening our long-standing security commitments with our friends in the Gulf, and rallying friends around the world to confront this danger before it is too late.”
