Democrats openly question Trump’s mental health

Posted by | February 17, 2017 09:28 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Press conferences that become an airing of grievances have consequences:

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) in a floor speech this week called for a review of the Constitution’s procedures for removing a president. He warned the 25th Amendment of the Constitution falls short when it comes to mental or emotional fitness for office.

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) during a weekend interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” said that “a few” Republican colleagues have expressed concern to him about Trump’s mental health.

And Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) plans to introduce legislation that would require the presence of a psychiatrist or psychologist in the White House.

The Democrats justify their questions by pointing to Trump’s habit of making demonstrably false claims. At a press conference Thursday, he said he’d had the biggest Electoral College win since President Ronald Reagan, for example, when his margin was lower than either of President Obama’s wins.

Blumenauer told The Hill he started taking another look at the 25th Amendment because Trump had casually repeated easily disproven claims, such as stating that it wasn’t raining during his speech on Inauguration Day when it was.

“It’s not normal behavior. I don’t know anybody in a position of responsibility that doesn’t know if they’re being rained on. And nobody I work with serially offers up verifiably false statements on an ongoing basis,” he said in an interview steps from the House chamber.

Further proof of “party before country.”

  2. Mike February 17th, 2017 at 09:41

Trump is a pathological liar …. Period.
Anyone who doesn’t believe the president has serious mental issues, has a serious mental issue.
It’s beyond left or right or whether I agree with his opinion or not. The president has shown an inability to grasp reality. It’s harmless now while talking about things like the size of his Inauguration crowd, whether it’s raining, if Ted Cruz’s dad was in on the JFK assignation, or his open bromance with a known KGB thug and enemy head of state.

What will happen when it matters …? When were at war with an enemy and have to rely on the president for the truth …?

I remember when Reagan began showing signs of Alzheimer’s during his second term.

I remember thinking: “Not possible. Republicans would put the welfare of the nation before the good of their party.”

    Boy, was I naive.

I like the special people part: “all men are created equal” or, “liberte, egalite, fraternite” – the two are a pile of poo when we all look at the scum in the political pot.

      • Larry Schmitt February 17th, 2017 at 12:39

Or as they say in Animal Farm, “some are more equal than others.”

    • crc3 February 17th, 2017 at 12:13

No, no!! Tax records must also be released. He can’t be allowed to skate on potential treasonous behavior and his possible ties to foreign governments. He needs to go down hard!

I can’t imagine why you would question a prez that says on national TV and radio that you should only watch fox and friends in the morning because all the others are lying to you.

    That’s a normal statement isn’t it ?

    • William February 17th, 2017 at 11:31

      Right…
      Because the leaks are real…
and the news is fake. Didn’t you watch the Cheeto news conference?

      • robert February 17th, 2017 at 11:40

Went to a press conference and a stand up comedy broke out….

        • Larry Schmitt February 17th, 2017 at 12:40

The difference is, at a stand up act, the humor is intentional.

  7. fahvel February 17th, 2017 at 11:36

certainly took long enough. Throughout the loons campaign he demonstrated, at the least, a mind deficient in even the simplest of thing like say, with sincerity, I’m a huge dood (doo) with tiny hands. He’s a fkn nutcase.

  8. Snick1946 February 17th, 2017 at 12:02

The very few GOP friend I have left ridiculed my concerns during the campaign. I told them then he is a nutcase. But no… for them it was always ‘Hillary, Hillary, Hillary’ and her fucking emails not to mention Benghazi.

This was not, BTW, an uninformed opinion. II spent 25 years working for my state’s DHHS. Not maybe the same as being a practicing psychiatrist, but I sure learned how to recognize symptoms of mental illness. He shows plenty of them.

When I Google the term, “Trump” came up second!

But, here is the Webster definition: “a delusional mental illness that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur”

      So, yes.

According to RWNJ sites, Pres Obama racked up $96M in travel in 8yrs ($12M per yr). Trump’s cost tax payers $10M in 28 days

The right wing hypocrites are never at a loss for “reasons” to explain their hypocrisy.

I found one guy arguing that the criticism of Obama is justified but criticism of Trump for costing much more is not justified. The reason being that Trump already lived a multi million dollar life style. So it is perfectly acceptable for taxpayers to continue to support him in the manner to which he has become accustomed, regardless of cost. Why should a President have to lower his standard of living?

Unlike President Obama from a relatively humble background who was “mooching” off taxpayers to finance a lifestyle he could never afford privately.

Honestly, I was at a loss for words…

      • granpa.usthai February 18th, 2017 at 10:00

ask them where they think the lifestyle of LIAR trump came from?

hint: very very few tax moochers have ever received a billion dollar tax refund for being a complete LOSER with 18 years tax exemption included.

He is a fascist, stupid, racist, ignorant, reactionary scumbag, like millions from his base, he is certainly unfit for any leading position, but not necessarily mentally ill. You are not used to dumb fascists for president, fortunately. The third world knows them.

  20. granpa.usthai February 18th, 2017 at 09:54

LIAR trump is merely a pathological LIAR.

mostly due to his white privileged class upbringing.

sometimes, pathological LIARS who are confronted enough (like being called out for each and every LIE) will change their LYING behavior, but I’m just not seeing that with LIAR trump. Either the media isn’t calling him out enough on his LIES (letting thousands merely float by) or LIAR trump is so entrenched in his LIES that he actually believes them.
