Trump’s Supreme Court pick Gorsuch, self-proclaimed boy fascist

Posted by | February 2, 2017 14:42 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Did Trump’s crack team even bother to fully vet this fascist stooge?

Supreme Court Justice nominee Neil Gorsuch founded and led a student group called the ‘Fascism Forever Club’ at his elite high school, DailyMail.com can reveal.

The club was set up to rally against the ‘left-wing tendencies’ of his professors while attending a Jesuit all-boys preparatory high school near Washington D.C.

The name may be inconvenient for a Supreme Court nominee facing a tough confirmation battle. However it also shows the depth of Gorscuch’s right-wing credentials – and his penchant for mischief while attending his exclusive prep school in the 1980s.

President Donald Trump nominated Gorsuch, a 49-year-old U.S. appellate judge, to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Tuesday.

Gorsuch founded the ‘Fascism Forever Club’ during his freshman year at Georgetown Preparatory, a now-$30,000-a-year private Jesuit school that is one of the most selective in the United States.

He served as president until he graduated in 1985, according to his senior yearbook.

Here is a screenshot of Gorsuch’s yearbook bio:

Yes, that is what it said in his high school yearbook. He proclaimed himself a fascist. The good folks at Snopes contacted the school:

we contacted Georgetown Preparatory School to verify whether a “Fascism Forever” club operated in or around that school in 1985, and director of communications Patrick Coyle told us that “no such club ever existed” there.

Similarly, America magazine reported that the reference to the “Fascism Forever” club in the yearbook was just a joke.

Really? Nobody is laughing, and we’re not buying excuses from the school’s spinmeister.

Via Salon, alternet.org adds:

Gorsuch’s willingness to flaunt anti-democratic ideas in service of his conservative politics continued through his four years at Columbia University in New York City where he founded a chapter of the Federalist Society, the conservative law network. His senior photo was accompanied by a “joke” from Henry Kissinger: “The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer.”

Again, nobody is laughing.

While Gorsuch’s teenage politics could—and no doubt will—be portrayed as “youthful indiscretion” or irreverence in the face of “political correctness,” they will certainly raise problems for Gorsuch’s nomination. Confirmation hearings of Supreme Court justices often focus on the elusive question of “temperament,” especially among Republic moderates in the Senate who will decide Gorsuch’s fate.

Gorsuch will no doubt dismiss his youthful beliefs as the product of immaturity, not an unreasonable defense. (Democrats would defend a liberal nominee who had joined the Socialist Workers Party in high school or quoted a rapper with a criminal record in their yearbook photo.)

A google search reveals that several ultra right wing sites are claiming this is “fake news.” Not surprising, but it also doesn’t turn up on any “real” news sites. Nothing on Wash Post, NYT. The “Daily Fail” can’t be taken seriously, they will publish anything.

    • StoneyCurtisll February 2nd, 2017 at 17:34

I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it is fake news until it is reported in the mainstream media with some proof.

      • Larry Schmitt February 2nd, 2017 at 17:42

That’s the way I feel too. When some outlandish story pops up, I consider the source, and then try to find it in the “real news.”

        • mea_mark February 2nd, 2017 at 18:07

The Jesuits that went to school with him are saying it was a gag that got printed in the yearbook. That the club never really existed, it was just something Gorsuch made up. Kind of strange that it got printed up though. Not sure what to believe just yet. It could be a cover up by the Jesuits because they are ashamed, not likely though.

          • bpollen February 4th, 2017 at 04:20

The Catholic Church covering something up?

Why, they would NEVER do something like that!

        • StoneyCurtisll February 2nd, 2017 at 20:50

          I know…
It’s hard to believe, what’s hard to believe anymore..:)

If he makes it to the SCOTUS, that would put a cloud on every ruling he was part of. The SCOTUS could become an illegitimate court.

    • Willys41 February 2nd, 2017 at 15:23

SCOTUS will be right back where it was before Scalia died. It’s not going to become illegitimate.

What we need in America today is less talk predicting anarchy and more talk directed at finding our way out of this “abortion” that our right-wing narrow-minded idiot ignorant fellow citizens got us into by voting for a man mentally and emotionally unfit for the job of president.

      • mea_mark February 2nd, 2017 at 15:28

IDK, legal challenges could last for years putting everything under a cloud. Especially if tRump is ruled to be incompetent and removed from office. It’s a very dangerous pick with many possible pitfalls. They should of vetted him better. This is Derp45 though, so I guess it’s par for the course.

  3. Willys41 February 2nd, 2017 at 15:20

Unfortunately, Trump’s next nominee may very well be wearing a swastiki.

    • Foundryman February 2nd, 2017 at 16:17

They all do now, they’re just to cowardly to show it.

  4. Foundryman February 2nd, 2017 at 16:17

Little surprise that Trump would nominate the most extreme right wing radical that Bannon could find.

  5. StoneyCurtisll February 2nd, 2017 at 17:20

Finally Trump has some solid proof of those millions of illegal voters…

OMG! How could OBAMA, HRC, Biden and Kerry Confirm this idiot for the U.S. Court of Appeals back in 2006. I can’t believe they did not do their research. Sheesh..

    • Mensa Member February 2nd, 2017 at 19:25

Oh, please! Not another conspiracy theory.

    • Foundryman February 2nd, 2017 at 21:31

They did do their research, now run along and look at what he did for the past ten years while on the appeals court and stop pretending that doesn’t matter.

    • dave-dr-gonzo February 3rd, 2017 at 00:41

He took a very sharp turn to the right as an appellate judge.

And he’s a self-admitted fascist, but it was just a joke, just like his not-so-funny college yearbook “joke.”

  7. Len Fox February 2nd, 2017 at 19:35

You stupid whiney toads…you didn’t even bother to do BASIC research or you would have found out this story is fake news. My gawd…curb your hatred…it just makes you look like bigger fools than you already are!

  8. Robert M. Snyder February 2nd, 2017 at 20:53

Shame on Alan.com for helping to spread fake news. This story has been debunked. It’s time for a correction.

    http://www.snopes.com/neil-gorsuchs-fascism-forever-club/

    • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 23:19

I agree that it is time for a Correction. GET RID OF TRUMP and Company.

    • dave-dr-gonzo February 3rd, 2017 at 00:40

Um, the story was updated. Maybe you missed it.

Gorsuch declared himself a fascist; it’s on his permanent record; no amount of saying, “Oh, it was a joke” will remove it.

Especially in light of his subsequent college yearbook “joke.”

Which, of course, means it is not fake news.

Shame on you for misrepresenting our story in its full context.

      • giantslor February 3rd, 2017 at 02:28

Which update are you talking about? Snopes still rates the claim that Gorsuch started a Fascist Forever club as false. What he did do is joke about it in the yearbook. I’m disappointed to see some progressive sites misrepresenting this story in either their headlines or the body of their stories. That’s what the cons do. We’re better than that. There’s enough insane, appalling stuff to report about Trump and his cronies that’s true — we don’t need to report untrue things. I would hope our ethics would prevent it anyway.

          • Robert M. Snyder February 3rd, 2017 at 10:50

Clear as mud. Could easily be inside humor. I’m sure he will be asked about this during the confirmation hearings, as he should be. People on this blog have occasionally called me derogatory names. On a couple of occasions, I have responded by saying things like “Last night my cat got on my nerves. Have you ever tasted cat bacon? It’s delicious.”. Does that mean I actually butcher cats? Maybe you’d better contact Sixty Minutes and PETA, because if I wrote those words, they must be literally true!

            • Obewon February 3rd, 2017 at 12:40

Your false equivalencies are your only constant.

History of SCOTUS nominee Gorsuch vs R. Snyder’s debunked falsehoods.

            • Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 13:12

              >> Could easily be inside humor

OK, Gorsuch thought fascism was funny, when he was in high school. I can excuse that.

But, Gorsuch will likely rule on a president who is a fascist wannabe.

Don’t you want assurance that Gorsuch will rule for democracy, not fascism?

        • Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 11:57

          >> Snopes still rates the claim that Gorsuch started a Fascist Forever club as false.

I’ll break it down for you:

Gorsuch pretended to start a Fascism club. Apparently, he thought it was funny.

          • giantslor February 3rd, 2017 at 12:03

Right, well this is what people should be reporting on and discussing, not “Gorsuch declared himself a fascist,” without acknowledging he was joking.

            • Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 12:52

It was high school. I can give him a break.

But, we need to know how he would rule on a president who has fascist, dictator tendencies.

We do know Gorsuch thinks CEOs can dictate birth control methods on their female employees.

How much has he changed since high school? It’s a relevant question.

              • giantslor February 3rd, 2017 at 17:54

Agreed. He also has a controversial quote in his college yearbook:

                http://www.snopes.com/neil-gorsuch-yearbook/

It’s not obvious to me that this is a joke, and it’s more concerning. He should be questioned about this. It cuts against his supposed current reverence for the Constitution.

I think most of the questions will relate to his judicial decisions, though. Those are less easily forgiven than youthful indiscretions.

            • mea_mark February 3rd, 2017 at 14:25

Was he really joking? Even if he was, could it be that there is still some elements of truth hidden away in it? I would also like to know if the joking is actually over or not, could he harbor views that are detrimental to our country? If we don’t ask these questions, then we are being irresponsible.

            • bpollen February 4th, 2017 at 04:14

Acknowledging he was joking assumes that he is being honest and forthright in his claims. Can you present evidence to support that assumption? As the old radio show said: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?” His judicial record sure tends to indicate a definite authoritarian viewpoint.

              • giantslor February 4th, 2017 at 04:24

The Snopes article cites a history teacher and the director of communications for the school, who say it was a joke and there was no such club at the school when Gorsuch was there.

                • bpollen February 4th, 2017 at 04:31

Chances are, it was just a juvenile joke. But, we don’t actually know for a fact either way. Not all “clubs” are officially sanctioned. And not all “jokes” are actually jokes. Ever seen someone straining to be polite with somebody they don’t like who then tells a “joke” about the object of their displeasure??? Frequently a lot more “truth” than “joke.”

I still find this “joke” disturbing in light of some of his decisions.

      • Robert M. Snyder February 3rd, 2017 at 09:38

If you’re that certain of the facts, then I think you should share your information with Snopes so that they can correct their website. Until that happens, I’m going to go with Snopes on this.

I have been saying for years that the NAZI Party was Never Defeated. They only went under Ground and infiltrated the Republican Party. But then What do I know ? I’m Just A Kook.

  10. Gary Parillo February 2nd, 2017 at 23:39

Another far right wing pseudo Christian dominionist nut job. There are many decent judges out there that are far more moderate and level headed than this one.Why him?Maybe his being a friend of donnys sister may have a little something to do with it?All his nominees are of of the same mindset. The fact that despot Don can’t think to deeply about anything, makes me wonder if presidents Bannon and Pence may actually be doing the choosing?

    • Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 11:36

And, he has two kids. I’ll guess he and his wife were allowed to make their own decisions about birth contrl.

i have friends who are very far left. very well read and intelligent peeps who could (and did on occasion ) go on , point by point, why Hilary would be just be status quo . she was linked heavily to big business said they. donald trump ,they proclaimed, would just bring about a downfall of status quo quickly ,then we could rebuild something better. i would counter
” assuming this downfall happens, why do you assume something better would automatically replace it ? ”

    • Suzanne McFly February 3rd, 2017 at 07:28

Those liberal friends gave the far right the Supreme Court, and that will hurt us for at least a couple generations due to the laws they will allow to pass.

      • Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 11:27

        I agree.

Hardcore conservatives set aside their concerns and voted for Trump because of the Supreme Court.

Hardcore liberals didn’t care about the Supreme Court. They trashed Hillary and de facto voted for Trump.

        • Suzanne McFly February 3rd, 2017 at 18:40

And now we are all effed.

  12. Mensa Member February 3rd, 2017 at 13:03

I got curious and Googled the address.

Gorsuch didn’t grow up in Compton or Camden, that’s for sure.
