Rick Perry about to take job he knows nothing about

Posted by | January 19, 2017 11:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

He’s about to take a job he totally misunderstood.

When President-elect Donald J. Trump offered Rick Perry the job of energy secretary five weeks ago, Mr. Perry gladly accepted, believing he was taking on a role as a global ambassador for the American oil and gas industry that he had long championed in his home state.

In the days after, Mr. Perry, the former Texas governor, discovered that he would be no such thing — that in fact, if confirmed by the Senate, he would become the steward of a vast national security complex he knew almost nothing about, caring for the most fearsome weapons on the planet, the United States’ nuclear arsenal.

Two-thirds of the agency’s annual $30 billion budget is devoted to maintaining, refurbishing and keeping safe the nation’s nuclear stockpile; thwarting nuclear proliferation; cleaning up and rebuilding an aging constellation of nuclear production facilities; and overseeing national laboratories that are considered the crown jewels of government science.

“If you asked him on that first day he said yes, he would have said, ‘I want to be an advocate for energy,’” said Michael McKenna, a Republican energy lobbyist who advised Mr. Perry’s 2016 presidential campaign and worked on the Trump transition’s Energy Department team in its early days. “If you asked him now, he’d say, ‘I’m serious about the challenges facing the nuclear complex.’ It’s been a learning curve.”

“Rick Perry about to take job he knows nothing about” That’s been true for every job Ricky-Bobby has ever held. BTW, thanks for the great straight line Alan!

      Booz’n it up?

    • Willys41 January 19th, 2017 at 12:03

Too bad he doesn’t have a brain, just like you right-wing KGB dimwits.

I always wonder whether morons like yourself ever realize that, as you are writing your empty words, there are educated and intelligent and sophisticated people reading them and weeping, weeping that they have to share the planets air with the likes of you.

Go check the welfare and government support stats by state. You will find that a large percentage are red states. The blue liberal states mostly contribute more to the Federal budget than take, so the real welfare babies are the same ones complaining about it. Enjoy as my taxes go down and my state keeps more money from you.

Cons are the real welfare queens, they want to pay no taxes, get all kinds of free guvmint services, pilfer the public coffers, and take guvmint jobs to do nothing…

Sadly, that statement can be used to describe much of his work history.
It’s a bit depressing that many of us ‘regular Joe’s’ have a better understanding of how government is supposed to work than anyone this administration has put forward.

I am with you, this sh!t is starting to get real. I never thought the day would come, I was positive something was going to happen before he is in office. It seems like the hours are winding down and nothing has saved us up to this point.

Well, Hell, why should the energy sec know anything about his job when the damn president doesn’t know anything about his job?

    • Larry Schmitt January 19th, 2017 at 12:29

And none of the rest of his picks know anything about their new jobs.

      • muffler January 19th, 2017 at 12:39

They know what these departments do that prevent them from taking advantage of the people while increasing their profits. This is where they will start to cut out the heart of the government by and for the people.

Just remember that the Departments role is to enforce and regulate to the laws passed by Congress. If the cut a reg or a requirement then Trump is effectively managing by executive overstep.

Congress could have always changed the laws… We need to watch how the accountable branches don;t do their jobs.

        • fahvel January 20th, 2017 at 01:38

that should terrify you, “don’t do their jobs”

I’m pretty sure Rick Perry has the letters L and R written on the tops of his shoes so he can get dressed faster. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/157238beca37490ca00d71755b35aab3395370a7d1fba432389570e2ede59eb7.jpg

The person on the left is Earnest Ernest Moniz, a nuclear physicist, and former faculty member at MIT. He received his PhD from Stanford. He presently heads up the department of energy. The guy on the right is Rick Perry. Rick graduated from Texas A&M with a degree (wait for it), in Animal Science. Rick Perry stated during his bid for the presidency, that he wanted to eliminate the department of energy (once he remembered what the three departments were that he wanted to eliminate). The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a Cabinet-level department of the United States Government concerned with the United States’ policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation’s nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production. Starting tomarrow, Rick Perry will essentially be in charge of the said department.

Well we will all be okay, I just saw rump get on a stage saying the incoming president and his cabinet have the highest IQ’s of any other administration. This can only mean one thing, rump is not going to be President and PBO will be our leader for at least 4 more years. Yeaahhhhh, the world is not ending….yeahhhh

Isn’t that was republicans do? They give their buddies government positions for which they are completely unqualified. Who can forget, “Good job, brownie!”?

So Trump offered the job to a buffoon who had no clue what the job entailed, and naturally the buffoon said “Sure, why not?”

The Trump Administration — welcome to Amateur Hour.

  13. eyelashviper January 19th, 2017 at 18:38

But I thought that was a prerequisite for all of the Cabinet posts….know nothings, do nothings, prove that government is inept.

  14. gilligan January 19th, 2017 at 19:44

None of the people that ___________________ has put up for the cabinet posts know anything about the cabinet positions they have been suggested for. They are Corporate America shills for the cocksucker brothers.
