Sinatra would have said ‘no’

Nancy Sinatra says her dad would never have played at Trump’s inauguration.

President-Elect Donald Trump is seemingly having a lot of trouble finding performers for his inauguration. So far, he’s only confirmed Jackie Evancho from America’s Got Talent, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Rockettes, and the Talladega College Marching bags. The list of people who won’t play seems to be getting longer and longer.  Add to that list someone who is no longer with us- Frank Sinatra.

Last night, someone tweeted at his daughter Nancy Sinatra to ask whether he would play at the inauguration if it had been offered to him. Sinatra gave a definitive no, saying “he would never support a bigot.”

How can she be sure? He supported Nixon in 72 against McGovern, after being a Democrat previously.

He was still made about JFK snubbing him and then vacationing with Bing, Sinatra’s competition.

I’m sure Nancy wouldn’t support a bigot, but I’m not so sure about Frank.

“We’ve got a hell of a long way to go in this racial situation. As long as most white men think of a Negro first and a man second, we’re in trouble. I don’t know why we can’t grow up.”

    and

“A friend to me has no race, no class and belongs to no minority. My friendships are formed out of affection, mutual respect and a feeling of having something in common. These are eternal values that cannot be classified.”

The man could be an SOB, but never based on race.

I still cringe, even though it was supposed to be in fun, the way the ring-a-ding-dingers treated Sammy Davis on stage at The Sands.

There was more entertainment talent at the funeral for Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher than will be at Trump’s inauguration.

Look! The Klan Klog Dancers are willing! The skinhead punk band Bad Vlad is game. The George Lincoln Rockwell Acrobats, and the Turner Diary Slam Poetry winners have expressed interest. The “I’m Not A Racist” Jugglers are having a contract dispute, and might not be able to make it.
