Gun-loving columnist killed after letting teen hold his firearm

Posted by | December 29, 2016 13:55 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

M.D. Harmon wrote about gun ownership rights for the Portland Press Herald.

…the 71-year-old Harmon was showing off one of his guns to a 16-year-old boy in his home in Sanford, Maine, on Wednesday. Harmon apparently let the teenager handle the weapon, which went off while the boy was holding it.

Both the teenager and his father were visiting Harmon for undisclosed reasons, and Harmon’s wife has called the shooting an “accidental tragedy.”

Harmon was a dedicated defender of gun ownership rights and would regularly rail against attempts to regulate firearms or even make the use of firearms safer.

I doubt the bullet had his name on it. It likely said “To whom it may concern”.

“…or even make the use of firearms safer.”

    Or the owners smarter.

Doing the second would automatically make the first happen. As long as gun owners refuse to follow the basic rules of safety, stupid “accidents” like this will continue.

Another example of common sense is for other people. This was no accident, this was inevitable.

Handing a loaded gun to a minor? How predictable is that outcome?
