Hundreds likely to lose Carrier jobs in Indianapolis, hundreds more in Huntington

Lost in the hoopla about the Trump Carrier “deal” is that hundreds in the Indianapolis plant will lose their jobs and a Huntington plant is closing entirely.

By enabling Carrier’s Indianapolis plant to stay open, the deal spares about 800 union workers whose jobs were going to be outsourced to Mexico, according to federal officials who were briefed by the heating and air conditioning company. This suggests that hundreds will still lose their jobs at the factory, where roughly 1,400 workers were slated to be laid off…

Whatever deal Trump struck with Carrier does not appear to have salvaged jobs at a separate branch of United Technologies in Huntington, Ind., that makes microprocessor-based controls for the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration industries. That branch will move manufacturing operations to a new plant in Mexico, costing the city 700 jobs by 2018.

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters suggested that local officials lack the political clout to preserve those jobs.

“At a local level, there was not much that anybody was going to do to make global, publicly traded companies make a decision other than what they made for the benefit of their shareholders,” Fetters said.

On another website, the people were praising trump, for saving 1000 jobs. It looks like that was not the case. There was no mention of Huntington, Indiana. I wonder why they don’t tell the whole truth.

next time you bump into an idiot bragging about 1k, which turns out to be 800 jobs saved, tell him this:

“Pres Obama Stopped 800K Job Loss 1st yr Created 15 Mil Jobs 40k New Jobs Every Wk 2016 73 mos Job Growth.” and that Obama didn’t have to bribe anyone.

Don’t be too harsh on United Technologies, they only had $5 billion in government contracts

idiots are cheering because they haven’t realized they just paid 7mil out of their pockets to save 800 jobs when 1400 are still going to Mexico. they are arguing like hell that he’s a savior. i’ve been cracking up all night long.

At $700K per year, the 850 jobs he saved cost the state of Indiana cost the state around $800 per year in tax revenue. That’s more than the tax bill for a $25K/year job. To put it another way, those jobs have to be at $50K/year just to get the same revenue that they are spending.

Seems like SUCH a good deal when 50% more jobs are STILL going south.
